Q WHAT ABOUT THOSE TINY MOTHS I SEE AROUND MY WEAVING??????
These are Miller Moths, and in the last couple of years, have become a problem across the entire U.S. I saw them this summer in Hungary, too, just flitting around a park! Wherever there are grain products, including cereal, sooner or later there will be moths. The eggs are everywhere. We do the best we can, with fumigation before and after weaving, but sometimes those pesky things reapear. There are several solutions: The easiest is to buy a NO-Pest Strip (available in grocery stores or Home Depot) and put it and your piece(s) into a sealed bag for about 3 weeks. That will kill them and their eggs. Or, take off all ribons, soak the piece in water for about 3 minutes, and bake at 250 F. for 2 hours. Spraying with Pyrithins will also work (this is the insecticide used on fruits and vegetables) We do try our best to make sure your piece is clean when you get it, but outdoor shows are always tricky. The little pests are everywhere! And sometimes they hitch hike unbeknownst to us. Let me know if you have problems.
